“Our father taught us such a work ethic that if there’s something worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”
Jack L. Hildebrand, 86, passed away on March 26, 2015, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor. His wife, children, and grandchildren were all present to say goodbye.
Jack was born June 30, 1928 to Carl and Reeta Hildebrand, in Denver, Colorado. He was raised along with four brothers in Oklahoma. Jack had the utmost respect for his humble and hard working parents.
Jack owned a Chevron station in downtown Bremerton for 20 years. The Bremerton Sun once wrote an article about Jack, naming him “The hardest working man in Bremerton.” He was a great supporter of the local schools and civic activities.
From Bremerton, Jack moved his family to Bainbridge Island where he owned Village Chevron for another 20 years. The community honored Jack by naming “Hildebrand Lane” in tribute for his years of service to the community.
Jack’s success in business was a direct result of giving his customers the highest level of service; thereby earning their trust and loyalty. Upon retirement, Jack devoted himself to spending time with his family, and there found his greatest joy.
Jack is survived by his wife, Millie. They were married nearly 66 years and were truly in love every day. He is also survived by his four children, Reeta (Mike), Mark, Cynthia (Mark) and Marla (Chuck), 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Jack had a great love and passion for his grandchildren who all made him very proud.
Jack’s legacy will live on in the values and countless lessons his taught his family, and through his many unannounced acts of generosity, kindness and compassion.
Per Jack’s wishes, there will be no memorial service, but we know his loved ones and friends will carry his memory with them every day.
