IslandWood will host an evening of jazz for the Fort Ward Community Hall renovation.
The “Let’s Make History Gala” is coming to IslandWood from 3 to 6 p.m. on July 30. Hor d’oeuvre and jazz will be the order of the afternoon as the island welcomes Seattle jazz duo “Sundae + Mr. Goessl” playing tunes from the swing years and more.
Guitarist Jason Goessl and singer Kate “Sundae” Voss earned some critical acclaim when they won Earshot Jazz’s Golden Ear Award in 2016.
Friends of Fort Ward will also be presenting new photo displays depicting the history of the fort, recently drawn from the National Archives and other sources.
A presentation will honor contributors to the project and announce the bakery building’s renovation schedule, set to begin late this summer.
Allyson Brown is IslandWood’s senior vice president of philanthropy. Brown said that she was excited to be involved in the project.
“Hosting Friends of Fort Ward at IslandWood provides us an exciting opportunity to support and nurture likeminded organizations in our community,” Brown said.
Tickets to the gala are $50 per person and can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com.
