A participant in the 2018 Bainbridge Island Police Department’s Youth Police Academy tries to knock over inflatable villains with a foam noodle as part of an obstacle course set up for campers Thursday in Waterfront Park.
The youth academy (aka the Cops & Kids Summer Camp) was presented by the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District and the BIPD, and featured three days of hands-on and behind-the-scenes law enforcement and public safety events. The camp started with roll call (and donuts) at the police station; daily activities ranged from mug shots to a mock trial (with Chief Matthew Hamner as “judge”) to CSI (crime scene investigation). The camp ended with an ice cream social.
