A 32-year-old Olalla woman who was up a tree in more ways than one is facing charges in Kitsap County Superior Court.
After a long chase by car and on foot, deputies cornered the woman as she was 30 feet up a tree. Soon after she fell out, suffering minor injuries.
The incident took place at 1:38 a.m. Jan. 26 and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was charged with eluding police and faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Bail was set at $150,000.
Probable cause papers say a deputy followed a vehicle in the Gorst area that was speeding. The deputy found out the license plate was for another vehicle, and the suspect had eluded numerous law enforcement agencies previously.
The deputy saw the vehicle commit several traffic violations, including behavior similar to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The deputy observed reckless driving as the car went off the road. The woman fled on foot through brush.
A K9 team joined in. Deputies talked with three passengers still in the car. Two had asked but were not allowed out of the car, which officials said could have been unlawful imprisonment. The driver later said she had ingested fentanyl.
