Vehicular assault
A 38-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Oct. 6 charged with vehicular assault – DUI.
Bail was $100,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Bremerton police reports say the crime occurred Oct. 4 at 10:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of Callahan Drive.
The officer observed a telephone pole broken in half and several crashed vehicles. A store employee reported the intoxicated man and followed him. The suspect put his car in reverse and crashed into the witness. She suffered a broken arm, and her passenger also was injured.
The suspect then put his vehicle in drive and sped forward at a high rate of speed, crashing into the telephone pole. Other vehicles also were hit in the incident.
Witnesses turned off his vehicle and pulled him out. The suspect was uncooperative with police, refusing to take a BAC test. The victim later said he drank eight beers and hit the gas pedal by accident instead of the brake.
Propane tanks
A 35-year-old Port Orchard man said he stole propane tanks to keep warm as he was homeless.
He also wore a bright neon shirt with cargo pants while trying to cash a fraudulent check.
The man was in Kitsap County Superior Court Oct. 3 arrested on a warrant from March 16 for second-degree burglary. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
The man also faces two counts of forgery with 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. Total bail is set at $150,000.
Port Orchard police say on March 15 at 3:20 a.m. officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at ABC Supply at 1550 Piperberry Way SE. An alarm company advised a man was inside a fenced gate tampering with equipment.
A hole was found in the fence. The man was handcuffed. He said he had stolen propane tanks to stay warm.
The forgery charge is from Oct. 14, 2021, with a fraud call in progress at Kitsap Bank at 3324 Bethel Road SE. The suspect was wearing a neon shirt and was still in the lobby after trying to cash a fraudulent check. The signature on the $875 check for “home repairs” did not match what was on file, and the suspect was “getting antsy.”
$250,000 bail
Bail was set at $250,000 in Superior Court Oct. 5 for a man arrested on a warrant from July charged with first-degree child molestation.
He faces life in prison and $50,000 in fines.
Kitsap sheriff’s reports say the 32-year-old transient molested a woman’s daughter in the 1700 block of SE Village Way in Port Orchard. The mother said the suspect was a former boyfriend, and it happened about nine years ago when the girl was 5. In general, the charges allege “inappropriate touching.”
Vehicular assault
A 50-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Oct. 5 charged with vehicular assault DUI.
Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Port Orchard police say they responded to a collision in the 2000 block of SE Mile Hill Drive. A woman passenger was treated for a broken arm. She said the man had been drinking. He admitted he had a few beers. He had a .148 reading. The legal limit is .08.
Road rage
a 38-year-old Poulsbo man was in Superior Court Oct. 5 charged with second-degree assault.
Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Kitsap County sheriff’s papers say that Oct. 8 at 4:38 p.m. a road rage incident took place that involved a firearm at Pugh and Bond roads in Poulsbo. It started when the victim tried to merge, and the driver of the other vehicle did not make room. When they came to a stop, the suspect pointed a gun at the victim.
