A Kitsap County Deputy Coroner was arrested last week for DUI after allegedly sideswiping a road sign and striking a bridge support at Newberry Hill Road and Highway 3 in Silverdale.
According to the incident report, a Washington State Patrol Trooper responded to the scene where Alan R. White had crashed the van, which was a public vehicle owned by the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office. According to a statement of probable cause, White smelled of intoxicants and exhibited slurred speech.
According to the trooper’s account, White’s eyes were also bloodshot and watery and his pupils were dilated. He told authorities that he was coming from the Coroner’s Office and was on his way to bring food to his wife and kids at an address off Newberry Hill Road, the incident report states.
After talking with law enforcement, White claimed he was exiting northbound Highway 3 onto Newberry Hill Road and turned left at the end of the on-ramp. He said an unidentified car had come through the red light on Westbound Newberry Hill Road, which forced him to swerve before he lost control of the van and struck the sign and bridge support, according to the Washington State Patrol.
White advised he was not injured in the collision. He also told authorities that he had not had anything to drink, but said he was taking two prescription medications as well as Tylenol-Codeine. A breath analysis performed on White revealed a blood-alcohol content of .19, more than twice the legal limit.
