Funny money
A 36-year-old Seabeck man who had $3,500 in funny money was in Superior Court June 25 charged with vehicle theft.
Bail was $76,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court papers show the State Patrol responded to Highway 3 at the Rodeo Drive-In Theater June 23 at 11:50 p.m. The stolen truck was being driven erratically, but the chase ended as the vehicle drove through downtown Port Orchard. The truck then started going in the lane in the wrong direction on Mile Hill. The vehicle stopped sometime later, and the driver ran off. The trooper gave chase, but the suspect was caught by Port Orchard police and Kitsap County deputies.
The suspect had $3,500 in $100 of prop money used in the making of motion pictures, indicating he intended to deceive the registered owner before stealing the vehicle. The man then complained of being sick, saying he swallowed 20 “blues,” also known as fentanyl. He was transported to St. Anthony hospital in Gig Harbor. A large amount of Narcan was administered, meaning a minimum of four hours of observation was needed.
The truck owner said it was stolen from near the Bremerton airport.
Disconnected battery
If you don’t want your vehicle stolen, disconnecting the battery might be a good idea.
A 22-year-old man tried to steal a truck in 2022, but failed due to the disconnected battery.
The man was arrested in Kitsap County June 25 on a two-year-old warrant for motor vehicle theft, and two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle. He faces 30 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.
Court records show Kitsap deputies responded July 23, 2022 at 12:34 p.m. to the 1200 block of Humphrey Avenue. The caller said the suspect had a gun and attempted to take his roommate’s truck. The suspect grabbed a wrench and began breaking the ignition. He was wearing a black bandana over his face. But the vehicle wouldn’t start due to the disconnected battery.
Deputies found out the vehicle the suspect had been driving had been stolen that morning. Officers found a glove that the suspect took off to have the dexterity to break the ignition.
A few hours later another vehicle was stolen out of a driveway. The previous stolen vehicle was left in its place. The vehicle is lowered with canted wheels and pink taillights. A man said on a Facebook post that he would beat up an acquaintance if he didn’t say who stole the vehicle. He told him an alias name of the real suspect. At 4 p.m., after a short foot pursuit, a stolen truck and the suspect were located in the Jackson Park area. He was arrested, but has been on the lam since then.

The victim argued with two suspects, but to keep his distance he went inside the clubhouse. The suspects pushed the bolt lock, trapping the victim inside.
