Five Kitsap families who can trace their history back 100 years or more will be honored next month at the third annual Heritage Family Banquet.
Selected from nominations, the five families have made significant contributions to their community over the past generations, according to the Kitsap Historical Society. An important criteria is still having family members residing in Kitsap County.
The 2014 Heritage Families are:
the James Wesley Bryan Family of Bremerton;
the McBride/Albertson/Tjosdale Family representing Bainbridge Island;
the James A. Thompson Family representing North Kitsap;
the Dr. Francis Harlow Family representing Central Kitsap; and
the Karl Oskar Holmberg Family of South Kitsap.
The banquet is Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Kiana Lodge and will feature Leonard Forsman as keynote speaker. Forsman is chairman of the Suquamish Tribe and a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.
Frank Shiers, an anchor for KIRO Radio, will serve as emcee for the program.
A photo history of each family with taped excerpts from family members will be followed by an awards ceremony.
