Churches from around the Kitsap Peninsula will simultaneously hold a “peninsula-wide” food drive this weekend to collect canned goods and other non-perishables for local food banks.
The Knights of Columbus are holding the various drives as part of their “Leave No Neighbor Behind” campaign, which seeks to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s an outflow of that effort,” said Larry Devlin, program director for KC Help in Poulsbo. “Councils all over the country have been doing this.”
In Poulsbo, the Knights of Columbus council based at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church will be hosting their food drive across the street from the church at North Kitsap High School. All donations will go to Fishline in Poulsbo. Other food drives will be held in Bremerton, Port Orchard, Silverdale, Gig Harbor and Belfair.
“North Kitsap was kind enough to let us do it right across the street, we’re appreciative of them,” Devlin said.
The food drive will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 28. Other participating locations include Holy Trinity in Bremerton, St. Gabriel in Port Orchard, Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor in Silverdale, Prince of Peace in Belfair and St. Nicholas in Gig Harbor. Star of the Sea in Bremerton will hold theirs on June 27.
Beneficiaries include St. Vincent de Paul, St. Gabriel Care and Share, South Kitsap Helpline, North Mason Food Bank and Central Kitsap Food Bank.
