Bainbridge routs Lakeside 17-4, setting up a showdown vs. Mercer at 7:45 p.m.
If there was any possibility that the Bainbridge lacrosse team was overlooking Lakeside to get to Mercer Island, it was erased by halftime.
Nine different players scored as the Spartans crushed the Lions 17-4 on a sunny but cold Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
Dylan Masi had seven points in the game as he scored four goals and dished out three assists.
Sean Forsyth also had four goals and an assist.
“We were doing pretty well out there,†junior defender and co-captain James Gilbreath said. “We kinda came out flat in the beginning but we turned it on in the second and third quarter.â€
Masi and Forsyth scored all four goals in the first quarter, with Forsyth and Masi hooking up twice for scores.
Lakeside scored their first goal in the second period, but Max Olson and Masi each scored twice along with a goal from James Gilbreath to put the game out of reach.
“We clicked,†senior attacker Willy Delius said “We transitioned what worked well for us (in practice) in the game and we got a lot of unassisted goals.â€
Forsyth scored twice while Masi scored and assisted on a goal by Delius to give the Spartans some distance in the third quarter.
Garret Lund, Evan Wright and Fiore Alailima scored in the fourth.
Bainbridge also shone defensively, as they forced Lakeside into 27 turnovers for the game and allowing only nine shots on goal, as Bryce Stevenson made five saves.
They also kept control of the ball by scooping up 46 ground balls, with defender Dayton Gilbreath leading the team with nine.
The win allows the Spartans to host a state semifinal game tonight against their rival Mercer Island.
Both James Gilbreath and Delius had no qualms about who they wanted to face.
“I want to play Mercer Island,†James said.
Delius agreed.
“We want Mercer,†he said. “We need revenge.â€
