Dr. Scott Lindquist will be leaving his position as health officer for the Kitsap Public Health District, the district announced Wednesday.

Lindquist has accepted the position of epidemiologist for communicable diseases and deputy health officer for the Washington State Department of Health.

His last day as the county’s health officer is Sept. 15, and he will start his job with the State Department of Health on the following day, Sept. 16.

Lindquist has served as health officer, and previously as director of health, for the Kitsap Public Health District since 2001. He has also served as a pediatrician and public health officer at the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Medical Clinic, where he has worked one day a week since 2001. He has also been the state’s tuberculosis medical consultant since 2002.

“Dr. Lindquist has provided tremendous leadership working with the community on a variety of public health issues, helping to improve the health of all Kitsap County residents,” said Health District Administrator Scott Daniels.

“He will continue to work with the district in his new role investigating and controlling infectious diseases statewide. We wish him the very best of luck in his new professional endeavors,” Daniels said.

Lindquist will continue to provide one day a week service to the S’Klallam Tribal Medical Clinic after he leaves the health district in September, officials said.

Lindquist will continue to reside in Kitsap County after he begins his new job with the State.

In the coming weeks, the Kitsap County Health District will work with the Kitsap Public Health Board to initiate the recruitment process for a new county health officer.
