Madison Avenue North near Day Road was closed for several hours Saturday after a tree fell and blocked both lanes of Madison Avenue.

The tree also took out telephone lines, mailboxes, and a utility box and pole near Raccoon Lane.

Trees and power lines were reported down across the island, and nearly 2,000 homes lost electricity as strong winds buffeted Bainbridge. A power outage at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal in the morning prompted late ferry sailings into the afternoon.
