Local nonprofits benefit from Rotary Club’s 2017 auction and rummage sale proceeds

The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island will bestow 36 community grants from the proceeds of its 2017 auction and rummage sale, the nonprofit has announced.

The grants total $159,403 and will be given to 33 nonprofit organizations located on Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap County.

Officials said award checks are being presented to the grant recipients at regular Rotary Club meetings over a three-month period.

“We had a most successful auction and rummage sale last July and it’s great to be able to give this much back to our community,” said Community Grants chair Mike Lewars.

“It is always difficult to select our grant recipients from the long list of worthy applicants. This year we set an all-time record of 36 grants awarded to wonderful nonprofits,” he said.

The grants cover a wide range of projects, from tumbling mats for the Bainbridge Cheer team to new computers for the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum.

In the last seven years, the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island has awarded 189 Community Grants totaling more than $847,000 to 85 local nonprofit organizations. The auction and rummage sale provided funds for these grants, officials said.

The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island has a long and proud history of providing grants to support diverse community projects, dating back to the club’s founding in 1947. Members of the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island are stewards of funds we raise at its yearly Rotary Auction and Rummage Sale.
