Longtime district teacher named associate principal at Sakai, Ordway

Warren Read, the instructional coach and longtime district teacher will replace Amii Pratt at Sakai Intermediate School; he will also serve Ordway Elementary School.

The Bainbridge Island School District has announced the hiring of Warren Read as the new associate principal of Sonoji Sakai Intermediate School and Ordway Elementary School.

Read will take his post at the schools starting July 1.

“I’m excited to return to the role of associate principal, and thrilled to be able to do so with Sakai and Ordway,” Read said. “Over the years, as a parent and colleague, I’ve come to respect the hard work and dedication of both building communities. I’m honored to have the opportunity to provide instructional leadership for these wonderful groups of students, parents and staff.”

The new associate principal is not a new face around the district. Read worked for the district as a teacher, literacy lead and teacher leader prior to his newest role.

In his current capacity as an instructional coach, Read trains and supports teachers in the process of delivering instruction aligned with Washington state’s Common Core learning standards. Previously, Read spent 12 years teaching fourth grade at Captain Charles Wilkes Elementary School. Read has also served Everett Public Schools as a fifth-grade teacher, writing specialist and assistant principal.

“Warren has a very student-centric approach and the instructional leadership skills to really make a difference for our students,” said Sakai Principal Jim Corsetti. “Our staff members are excited to have him joining us, and I’m looking forward to partnering with him. I’ve known Warren to be an excellent leader, listener and lifelong learner. He is constantly striving for professional development, which extends to his work as an author.”

Ordway Elementary Principal Melinda Reynvaan added, “Warren’s administrative background, leadership and ability to foster positive relationships with staff and families are the perfect fit for Ordway. The staff will be delighted by this news.”

Read received both his bachelor’s degree and Master of Educational Administration from Western Washington University. He is also a University of Washington National Writing Project Fellow. This month Read will earn a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Pacific Lutheran University.
