Ballots for the Aug. 4 Primary Election have arrived on Bainbridge Island.
Islanders will cast votes in one race: for the Director District 1 position on the Bainbridge Island School Board.
The nonpartisan office carries a four-year term.
Lynn Smith and Duncan C. Macfarlane are seeking the seat on the board. A third candidate, Tatiana Epanchin-Troyan, is on the ballot but has pulled out of the race for medical reasons.

Statement:
Common sense, understanding of district process and a deep and long-standing commitment to education are assets I bring to the Bainbridge Island School District. I have lived on Bainbridge for 16 years. My two children attend school here. Education, equity and innovation are paramount to me. My leadership credentials include: President, Parent-Teacher Organization Coordinating Council 2014-15; President, Odyssey Multiage Program PTO 2012-2014; Board President, Ovation! I have strong ties to the community and good relationships with our school district staff. Through my work with PTOs I have a great understanding of how our district works. We are lucky to have a District that truly cares about our children by continually working and improving to ensure they are getting the best education they can.
Our School District’s success is the product of cooperative interaction among teachers, staff, parents and local taxpayers. If elected, I will be honored to be a community-based public servant who always considers the best interest of all students.
