Majors baseball team is one win away from state

The Bainbridge Major team is the only of five island teams left in the hunt for a berth in the Baseball Little League State Tournament, which begins Saturday, July 25.

Bainbridge is poised to capture the district title with several teams still vying for the right to play Bainbridge, which has won four games by a combined score of 34-2. Its next game is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Port Orchard. If Bainbridge wins, it will play its first state tournament game Saturday, July 25, in Port Orchard.

In the 9-10 division, in which Bainbridge fielded two teams, the Blue team came within two wins of reaching the finals after beating Sequim, North Mason and South Kitsap East. The Blue team then lost to South Kitsap Southern 9-4 to end its run. Bainbridge’s Gold team was eliminated after losing its first two games.

The Gold team won two games in the 10-11 division, beating South Kitsap East in the team’s first game. After losing to South Kitsap Southern, the Gold team defeated North Kitsap American 16-10 before losing 12-3 to South Kitsap East.

The 10-11 Blue team started strong, defeating North Kitsap Northern 10-3 in the first round before losing its next two games.
