One person was transported by helicopter from a landing zone at Poulsbo’s Raab Park to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a fall while underway on a large sailing vessel in Puget Sound near Suquamish May 8.
North Kitsap Fire & Rescue was dispatched at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday to a water rescue off Indianola. Crews responded to the Port of Kingston Marina to get the district’s fire-rescue boat, Marine 81. They were en route when the crew of the sailboat decided to make their way to the Suquamish Dock.
Upon arrival the patient was met by a paramedic crew from NKF&R’s Suquamish station as well as the team aboard Marine 81. Assisted by another crew from Bainbridge Island Fire Department, paramedics treated the patient and quickly prepared for an airlift.
With construction equipment blocking access to the closest landing zone at Suquamish Elementary School and in an effort to get closer to a hospital in the event that helicopters could not fly due to weather or other safety concerns, crews met Airlift Northwest at Raab Park in Poulsbo.
The patient was flown to the Seattle regional trauma center while Marine 81 transported another person from the sailing vessel to Seattle to be with the patient.
