To the editor:
We would like to thank a number of people who were involved in the effort to save the madrone trees in downtown Winslow. First, the Review for such a great picture and for their interest in the tree saving effort.
The adventure began when the two of us met at the Historical Museum’s “historical tree tour” led by Olaf Ribiero. We enjoyed seeing the many unusual trees downtown, and ended up at the madrones, which were not looking healthy. Olaf thought that they could be saved if we could raise funds to pay for a special treatment he could provide. We found that a number of the participants in the tour and other friends were willing to contribute to the fund. Many thanks to them.
Then we contacted the Senior Center Board. Thanks to them for being the non profit organization supporting the work.
Thanks to the city officials who gave permission for the work to move forward with alacrity.
We are also grateful to the board members of the Senior Center, the park board members, and the city public works department representatives who attended the event.
And special thanks to Nick Benovich who donated his services to administer the nourishing plant cocktail.
It was a great cooperative effort!
