Martin H. Monsaas (Marty), 60, passed away at his home in Kasilof, Alaska on March 10, 2015.
He was born Feb. 19, 1955 at the Winslow Clinic on Bainbridge Island, the eldest of four children born to Lorentz A. and Jacqueline A. Monsaas.
He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1981 and ultimately Kasilof in 1987. At the time of his death he was lead heavy equipment mechanic for the city of Soldotna. He was a talented mechanic and could fix any engine or piece of equipment; any equipment he hadn’t worked on before was just another challenge to meet.
Family, friends and fun were important in his life. Marty loved fishing and gold dredging in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. His daughter Melissa and his grandchildren were the light of his life. Marty enjoyed working with his nephew Andrew on his muscle car he had for over 40 years. He recently completed a 1,600-mile motorcycle ride in Arizona with his good friend, and couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had. Marty may have left us way too soon, but he put a lot of fun in those 60 years he did have!
He was preceded in death by his father, Lorentz A. Monsaas.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa; grandchildren Ryker and Kennedy, of Kasilof; his German shepherd Denali; his mother Jacqueline Monsaas of Poulsbo; brothers Lorentz and David (Jane); nephew Andrew; niece Shelby; and sister Susan Sund (Ed).
