The staff and students at Ordway Elementary officially dedicated a glass-tiled, mosaic mural in memory of one of their own on Tuesday.
Third-grade teacher Suzy Peters passed away in 2011 but her memory lives on in her friends and students.
The gym filled up with people sharing stories about Peters at the dedication. And a few familiar faces from the past showed up, too.
“She never stopped being the same person,” said Bainbridge High School senior Greg Jay, who recalled how his third-grade teacher always said hello to him each morning.
“She wanted to include everybody,” he said.
Her kindness was also remembered.
“I remember one day my friend and I wrote on her white board with permanent marker,” said Maddie Stephenson with a laugh. Stephenson who now walks the halls at Bainbridge High School is another former student from Peter’s third-grade class.
“She asked the class who did it, and my friend and I were really hesitant to say anything. When we finally did, she was so sweet about it and taught us this cool trick to get it off.”
The glass-tiled mosaic was crafted by 400 students. It hangs on the wall outside the school’s main office.
