The Bainbridge Island Review is happy to welcome Ella Meyers to the staff as a summer intern.
An upcoming senior, Meyers joined the staff of Bainbridge High School’s newspaper, The Spartan Standard, last year. She was recruited to be the features section editor.
“I had never really considered working on the Standard until I was singled out by my English teacher,” Meyers said. “But I have always enjoyed peer editing and writing.”
During her junior year, Meyers learned the ins and outs of the BHS newspaper.
“Working as a section editor let me dive right into journalism without having any previous experience with reporting,” Meyers said. “It was all very new to me, but I’m so glad that I gave it a shot.”
Meyers is lined up to be an editor-in-chief for The Spartan Standard her senior year. She sees her summer internship at the Review as a great opportunity to prepare for her bigger role on the school newspaper.
“This internship will not only give me valuable job experience, but also experience in a field which I can picture myself pursuing in the future,” Meyers said.
Meyers is most interested in covering feature stories and learning about page design.
“We’re thrilled to have Ella join our newsroom this summer, and very grateful to Bainbridge Youth Services for lining us up with such an exceptional person through their internship program,” said Review editor Brian Kelly.
“Ella’s enthusiasm is contagious, and we’re excited to have her on our team,” he said.
