National Weather Service: Rough weather ahead for Bainbridge Island and Puget Sound

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a wind advisory for the Puget Sound area and the southwest interior, from the Tacoma area to the east Puget Sound Lowlands.

The advisory includes Bainbridge Island and the surrounding area; Seattle, Bremerton, Silverdale, and beyond.

The wind advisory will stay in place until 7 a.m. Saturday.

South winds between 30 to 40 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph.

The Weather Service notes that gusty winds may lead to power outages from falling tree limbs.

The strongest winds are expected to be late Friday afternoon through Friday evening.

Authorities said travelers should use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.

The advisory was issued just before 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31.

The National Weather Service office in Seattle is also warning of heavy rainfall through Saturday in the Seattle region and vicinity, which includes Kitsap County and Bainbridge.

The heavy rainfall over the last several weeks, including the last several days, has increased the risk of landslides, officials said. Soil moisture in already at high levels across western Washington, and moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Friday through Saturday.

Up to 3 inches of rainfall is expected in the lowlands of Puget Sound, and officials said this amount of rain will put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides Friday through

Saturday.
