Bainbridge Island city officials will host a community meeting in September to detail the city’s plans on remodeling the Harrison medical clinic building into a new public safety building.
The public participation meeting — planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 in the council chamber at city hall — is customary for large development projects and is required by city regulations.
Bainbridge officials have been talking for more than a decade about a replacement for the city’s outdated police station on Winslow Way. The city’s municipal court has also been reviewed for relocation in recent years, and is currently housed in a rented building in Rolling Bay.
The police station/municipal court project has an overall budget of $20 million, and will be financed from general fund revenues and non-voted bonds.
The council is expected to authorize the hiring of a bond underwriter at the council’s meeting on Aug. 27.
