Mary Ellen “Mev” Hoberg will take the oath of office and become the newest member of the Bainbridge Island School Board  at the board’s meeting tonight.

Hoberg will serve in the District 3 director position. She replaces John Tawresey, who resigned in early March.

The school board selected Hoberg, a parent of two children in Bainbridge schools and a classroom volunteer for the past several years, from a field of five candidates at its meeting late last week.

The school board usually meets on Thursdays, but this week’s meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 in the board room on the Commodore Campus.

It promises to be an interesting meeting for the new board member.

The meeting begins with a study session that will run until 7 p.m. that will be devoted to a demographic study of the school district.

Later, district officials will get an update on the upcoming budget, as well as reports on capital projects and technology.

The next school board meeting in May will return to its regular Thursday schedule. The board first meets next month at 5:30 p.m. May 10.
