Lane closures on the bridge
For the next two weekends, motorists using the State Route 305 Agate Passage Bridge should expect travel delays as road crews perform annual inspections, according to a Monday release from the state Department of Transportation.
The Saturday and Sunday inspections will take place between 5 and 9 a.m. July 28 and 29 and Aug. 4 and 5.
During the inspection, work delays of up to 15 minutes are expected.
The bridge will be open to single-lane, alternating traffic, so drivers are encouraged to plan their commute accordingly and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destination.
The work requires the use of an under-bridge inspection truck, making it necessary for the inspections to take place during daylight hours.
Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
Ferry district talk continues
The city Planning Commission will discuss the environmental review process for the Ferry/Gateway District Thursday at City Hall.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m., with Ferry District discussion slated for 7:55 p.m.
The city last month kicked off a six-month long environmental review for the project, which is separate from, but will aim to mesh with State Route 305 corridor planning, Winslow Tomorrow and the now-delayed ferry terminal project.
Residents form council
More than 200 households in the downtown area have created a formal group – known as the Cave Neighborhood Community Council – to keep neighbors informed about city planning efforts.
Residents from the Cave Avenue neighborhood, Harbor Square condominiums and the west side of Ferncliff Way recently approved a statement of purpose that includes “working with government, civic groups and businesses for the benefit of all who live and work in the council’s neighborhood.”
The group opposes city plans to build a vehicle overpass connecting Wyatt Way to Ferncliff Way, as well as what members consider to be excessive residential density proposals within their neighborhood.
The council also will work for more parkland in Winslow, and to prepare an emergency plan.
Elected to the Community Council board of directors were Norm Bruns, Michael Donais, Neil Johannsen, Judi Neuman, Dave Ward, Wayne Roth, Alif Alif, Greg Willems and Lee Shugart.
The group’s website, which still is under construction, will be CaveNeighborhoodCommunityCouncil.org.
