Night work will start on the Rockaway Beach Road repair and stabilization project at 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26.

Bainbridge Island officials said the work will continue through Saturday, Aug. 31 with each successive night starting one hour later.

Working hours will occur during both day and night hours so the project can be finished within the allowable permit window from the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife.

The first night hours are scheduled for the last week of August with future night hours scheduled intermittently throughout the project.  Advanced notification will be provided for each week of night hour work.

The city’s planning commission previously approved a waiver from the city’s noise ordinance so work could continue at night.

The road is being repaired near an eroding shoreline bluff approximately 1,000 feet south of Old Creosote Hill Road. Major work items include the construction of approximately 340 feet of wall along the beach, geotextile slope stabilization and the restoration of approximately 550 feet of roadway.

The roadway will be closed throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to last through November and possible early December.
