An Arlington man got the scare of his life when he lost control of his 2002 Toyota Tacoma while driving across an icy Agate Pass Bridge during Bainbridge’s first snowfall of the year.
According to Bainbridge police, the 24-year-old Arlington man was heading north on Highway 305 just after 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 when his 2002 Toyota Tacoma hit a “sheet of ice” on the deck of the bridge.
The driver lost control of the Toyota, which went into a sideways slide and spun counter-clockwise and hit the curb on the south side of the bridge. The Toyota then continued to slide across the bridge and was hit on the driver’s side by a 2001 Ford Econoline van that was also headed north.
The driver of the van, a 28-year-old Poulsbo man, told police he was afraid of taking any quick evasive maneuvers after the vehicle in front of him on the bridge began to swerve because he was also afraid of losing control of his vehicle.
Neither driver was hurt in the collision, and both vehicles were then driven off the north end of the bridge.
The driver of the Toyota later told police he was afraid he was going to go off the bridge when he lost control.
