Ordway fourth-graders take a trip back in time

Educational displays featuring antique photographs from Bainbridge Island history will be on display at several venues around the community as part of the “A Picture of Island History” project assembled by a class of Ordway Elementary School fourth-graders.

Educational displays featuring antique photographs from Bainbridge Island history will be on display at several venues around the community as part of the “A Picture of Island History” project assembled by a class of Ordway Elementary School fourth-graders.

“Each student visited the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum in November to research and document an Island location aided by  the museum’s team of teacher docents,” explained museum spokeswoman Karen Beierle. “They returned to the museum to assemble their ‘then and now’ exhibit with the help of museum curator Rick Chandler.”

The projects are now displayed  at three locations around the island: 12 in the Historical Museum, 12 in the Ordway library and 12 at various other locations where the public can enjoy the talents of the students and learn about local history.

All the projects will rotate through those sites through March, spending one month in each.

“This is an amazing project between the Bainbridge schools and the Historical Museum,” Beierle said. “I think the community will be impressed with these fourth graders efforts.”
