The Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation is hosting a “Trails Open House” event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Prue’s House cabin (at Grand Forest Hilltop).
Organizers will roll out maps and invite ideas for new routes and connections between neighborhoods, after which the parks foundation will distill the suggestions from this exploratory workshop into recommendations for growing and improving the island-wide trail network.
“Islanders know their own neighborhoods and can see potential connections that aren’t always apparent,” said Barb Trafton, executive director of the parks foundation.
“Drawing from this wealth of ground-level knowledge will help us build a long-term plan for more trails and paths, for hiking or non-motorized travel,” she said.
Workshop participants are encouraged to park at the lower Grand Forest and hike up to the Prue’s House cabin, or bicycle to the event. Very limited parking for the mobility challenged will be available next to the Hilltop barn.
