The 50th annual Grand Old Fourth of July festivities once more took over downtown Winslow this week, marking half a century of celebration — and the latest revival of the beloved mile-long hometown parade.
Crowd-pleasing highlights included a steampunk-inspired flame-throwing machine in the “Mad Max” aesthetic from Jake’s Pickup, a scaled down ferry boat made of balloons that ran on pedestrian power, a karate demo, a mobile dance party with the gang from “Scooby Doo, Where Are You!” and a lot of other nostalgic nods to the culture of the parade’sinaugural year — 1967 — too, including hippies, tie dye and flowers aplenty.
Off the main drag there could be found food vendors and games galore, as well as live music, the return of the classic car show, a giant slide, pony rides and the annual Bainbridge Island Photo Club exhibition.
The Review’s own Luciano Marano was there, camera in hand, to capture all the action. His best shots are collected here.
