The Bainbridge Island City Council has unanimously picked Councilman Ron Peltier to serve as the city’s deputy mayor.
The council voted 7-0 at its meeting Tuesday to appoint Peltier, a District 1 councilman and the city’s at-large representative, to the post. He will serve as deputy mayor from January through June 2017.
Peltier was elected to the seven-member council in November 2015, and he had been the only member of the current council not to hold the position.
He replaces North Ward Councilman Kol Medina as deputy mayor.
Peltier took the appointment in stride.
“I have some brave colleagues, that’s all I have to say,” Peltier said.
Peltier and the rest of the council will get a breather before their next meeting.
The council has canceled the Dec. 20 study session and its Dec. 27 business meeting, and won’t meet again until Tuesday, Jan. 3.
