Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

APRIL 2

8:07 a.m. The back window of an SUV was shattered while the vehicle was parked overnight at a repair shop on Eagle Harbor Drive. The SUV was parked behind a chain link fence and there was no evidence suggesting how the window was broken. Damage was valued at $250; the shop’s owner said his insurance would pay for it. No suspects.

10:23 a.m. Vandalism was reported at Bainbridge High School. Someone had used fluorescent green paint to write “NK NK,” followed by an obscenity, on the windows of the stadium press box. An Ace Hardware brand can of spray paint of the same color was found in the area but revealed no clues to the vandal’s identity. No suspects.

12:46 p.m. Three juvenile males in a Honda Accord were contacted in the Town and Country parking lot after they were seen throwing water balloons from the car downtown. The vehicle’s windows were rolled down and a suspicious object was covered on the rear floorboard. The officer asked where the balloons were and the youths responded with blank stares. The officer asked a second time and a passenger in the rear seat uncovered a bucket of balloons. The juveniles said they had been throwing the balloons near pedestrians and filming their reactions. The officer told the teens that they could be charged if victims came forward. They were warned about littering, and their parents were contacted.

9:53 p.m. A Tolo Road youth reported that a man in a ski mask had attempted break into his home. The resident said his parents were at dinner in Seattle and he was watching TV in the living room with the lights off. The youth heard someone rattling at the front door and their four dogs start barking. He said he saw a white, 6-foot-tall man, dressed in black, with a black ski mask covering his face, run away from the house. Police searched the area but found no one matching the suspect’s description. The youth’s parents were contacted in Seattle. No suspects.

APRIL 3

8:47 p.m. A patrolling officer investigated a vehicle parked at a Weaver Way park. The officer trained his spotlight on the vehicle and saw a passenger hunched over in the back seat. The officer contacted three juveniles inside and as the driver rolled down his window, the officer was “engulfed” in a thick cloud of what smelled like marijuana smoke. The officer commented that it smelled like marijuana, but the driver said it was not. A passenger in the rear seat was holding a glass pipe and smoke continued to billow out of the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag of marijuana under a seat. All three juveniles were cited for possession of marijuana and one was cited for possession of paraphernalia.

APRIL 4

3:55 a.m. Police and aid responded to a High School Road hotel where a man was reportedly wandering the halls with a severe head injury. Officers found the man sitting on a sofa in the hotel’s lobby. His clothes were soaked in blood and a stocking cap was covering a deep laceration on his forehead. The man said he had drank an entire bottle of Jim Beam and gotten into a fight with his girlfriend earlier in the night. Police searched the room registered to the man and found its contents in disarray. There was an empty whiskey bottle outside the door and blood on the walls, floor and door handles in the hall. Officers determined the cut was likely caused by a fall. The man was transported to Harrison Hospital.

4:53 a.m. A Miller Road resident told police she was awakened by a strange man standing in her bedroom holding a gardening implement and demanding that she show proof that she lived in the house. The woman ran to her relative’s house next door and the man followed her, asking to use the phone to call police. The resident called police herself, and the man disappeared into the woods. The suspect reportedly had a cut on his forehead and fit the description of a man contacted earlier that morning. Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious man on Battle Point Road and police searched the area. At 6:15 a.m an officer spotted the suspect running down Battle Point Road near Salmon Run and detained him until backup arrived. After he was arrested the suspect told officers that he had seen a “for sale” sign at the woman’s house and was interested in buying it. The man, who said he was an ex Marine, said he had thought the house was vacant and entered through a side door. Once inside he picked up a gardening implement and announced that he was armed and would kill anyone who didn’t make their presence known. He said he found the woman in a back bedroom but didn’t believe she lived there and had followed her to her neighbor’s house after she refused to show identification. He then realized he had overstepped his bounds and fled into the woods where he said he took a nap. The suspect was booked into Kitsap County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary.

7:32 p.m. A 40-foot houseboat had engine trouble while motoring out of Eagle Harbor, forcing its operator to tie up at the ferry maintenance yard. Marine officers helped tow the boat back to its moorage at Harbor Dock.

APRIL 5

1:53 a.m. An officer observed a minivan unlawfully pass a truck at the intersection of High School Road and Highway 305. The van’s juvenile driver and passenger were contacted at Ferncliff Avenue. The driver could not find registration or proof of insurance and was in violation of the time restriction on his intermediate license. The youth admitted to having drunk a few beers and to possessing marijuana. A search of his person turned up a small amount of marijuana and a woo pipe. The officer found an empty 40 ounce bottle of malt liquor as well as a full, cold bottle in the van. A pill bottle containing what appeared to be powdered OxyContin and a razor blade was also found. The alcohol, drugs and paraphernalia were placed in evidence and the driver was booked for showing signs of intoxication.

6:44 a.m. The Meadowmeer Golf and Country Club reported damage to its fairways left by a vehicle on the course. The offending tracks appeared to have been made by an all-terrain vehicle which had entered by way of a golf cart path. Damage was estimated at $2,500. No suspects.

11:51 a.m. A woman said she believed she had lost her wallet at San Carlos Restaurant. The wallet was black and contained at least $200 cash, bank cards and a Social Security card.
