POLICE BLOTTER

Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

Oct. 17

10:29 a.m. Police were asked to respond to a vandalism report of a resident’s mailbox.

The officer noted that six mailboxes had been either smashed or knocked off their posts.

The officer spoke with all the residents and only one of them advised that they heard something during the night. That person said they heard their dogs bark in the early morning hours, but didn’t get up to see if there was a problem.

Damage for each mailbox was estimated at $25. Case closed with no leads or suspects.

Oct. 18

9:15 a.m. A resident was walking her dog when another dog came running out of another home. There were two dogs, both boxers, and one was a puppy. The owner was able to catch the puppy, but the older dog bit the other dog on the shoulder area. The dogs were separated and the injured animal was taken to a clinic.

The dog needed stitches resulting in $728 in veterinarian bills and has two more visits pending.

The woman contacted the dog owner for compensation and the dog owner allegedly asked for documentation of the injuries.

The report was referred to the Humane Society.

An officer responded to a resident whose water tank and pump house was damaged. The doors to the pump house were rammed in, apparently by a cast iron steel pipe. Both doors were damaged and needed to be replaced. No items were missing inside but replacing the doors will cost an estimated $750. No suspect information.

Oct. 19

3:15 p.m. A resident called to report that her wooden lawn ornament was stolen from her yard.

The ornament is a classic black face jockey about 3 or 4 feet tall and weighs about 100 pounds. The jockey has a red hat, black face and red jersey with black trousers. It was stolen once before and was recovered. Estimated cost is $200. No suspect information.

Oct. 20

12:43 p.m. An officer returned a call to a male claiming fraud on his VISA account.

Charges in the total amount of $847 were made via the internet from Chicago, IL. Visa absorbed the loss, and he subsequently closed the account.

11:45 p.m. Officers on patrol spotted a black vehicle without license plates. Officer approached the vehicle and advised driver who provided his Oregon license and information.

The officer noticed an odor of alcohol coming from the man’s breath when he spoke to him. The officer asked the driver to complete a voluntary sobriety test and a search for weapons and he agreed to both.

The officer felt in his pocket and immediately recognized a glass marijuana pipe. He asked the driver what the pipe was and he responded and said, “That’s my pot pipe.”

The officer informed the individual he would be issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver completed the sobriety test in a satisfactory manner, according to the officer, but he decided not to continue driving. When completing his background check the officer found that his Washington license was suspended in the third degree due to an unpaid ticket.

The man was issued a criminal citation for drug paraphernalia and criminal traffic citation. Failure to appear in court could result in a warren for his arrest. The man left the scene via taxi.
