Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

FEBRUARY 14

12:50 p.m. A man was detained at Safeway after store employees saw him swipe a Valentine’s Day card, a box of candy and a bottle of Advil. The man told a police officer that he and his wife didn’t have any money, and that morning his wife mentioned that he probably wasn’t going to get her anything for Valentine’s Day. He said he told his wife not to worry because he “had an idea.” The man was caught with $20.57 worth of goods. Police cited the him for shoplifting.

FEBRUARY 15

4:13 p.m. A North Madison Avenue resident reported an attempted vehicle prowl after finding a step stool sitting by his vehicle and chips in the paint along its driver’s side door. The man said he had heard someone outside his house early that morning but found nothing suspicious when he went outside to check. He did hear new neighbors in the area “hooting and hollering.” The man said there had been several incidents in the area recently, including thefts and attempted burglaries. No suspects.

FEBRUARY 18

10:58 a.m. Cash was reported stolen overnight from the register of a Tormey Lane business. The operator said she had discovered the money missing when she opened the business that morning. There were no signs of forced entry but the operator was adamant that her employees were not involved. No suspects.

2:10 p.m. Police responded to a Sportsman Club Road school after metal knuckles were found in the possession of a student. The knuckles had apparently fallen out of the boy’s pants in the midst of a social studies glass and his teacher had recovered them. The student was already on probation for a recent vandalism arrest and had been involved in several small fights at school, a counselor told police. The student told an officer that he was using the metal knuckles as a belt buckle, an assertion quickly disproved when the officer lifted the boy’s sweatshirt to reveal a functioning buckle already to his belt. The knuckles were taken into evidence. The student was transported to the county Juvenile Detention Center.

10:19 p.m. A suspect fled a convenience store with an un-purchased 18-pack of beer. A store employee said he had seen two young males enter the store through opposite doors. One stopped to purchase a case of TicTac mints. The other pulled the 18-pack from the beer cooler and fled the store. The employee said the suspect was wearing a hooded jacket, a wide black belt with metal studs and baggy pants. No suspects.

FEBRUARY 19

7:29 p.m. A Chevy Malibu rearended a Jeep Cherokee that was slowing for a stop light on SR-305 at Madison Avenue. The driver of the Chevy was cited.

FEBRUARY 20

2:20 p.m. A Shannon Drive resident reported that four or five pallets of firewood had disappeared from her property during the previous two

weeks. The loss was valued at $200.

FEBRUARY 22

12:40 a.m. A hooded suspect fled a Hildebrand Way convenience store carrying two 18-packs of beer. The store manager said he was helping another customer when he saw the suspect enter the store and grab a pack of Budweiser and pack of Miller Genuine Draft from the beer cooler. The suspect ran out the door and fled in the direction of the WaMU bank. The beer was valued at $32.56. No suspects.

12:11 p.m. An officer patrolling during the Chilly Hilly bicycle ride was alerted that a female bicyclist had been shot at by someone with a BB gun on Hidden Cove Road near Spargur Loop. The officer checked the area and was told by another rider that he had heard a “pop” sound like an air gun. Further west on Hidden Cove Road a cyclist told the officer he had seen juveniles flee into the woods. One juvenile was eventually taken into custody at a nearby baseball field. A second suspect was contacted through a parent. No bicyclists reported being struck by a BB, although a radio van driver reported his vehicle was hit. Cascade Bicycle Club officials agreed to send out an email request for any further reports.

4:23 p.m. Cash, a check and an iPod were reported stolen from a female student’s purse during a high school dance. The girl said she had left her purse in an area where there was supposed to be adult supervision. When she returned the items were gone. No suspects.

9:09 p.m. A Bainbridge resident reported receiving a death threat over the phone. He said he had answered a call from a restricted number and spoke to a female caller who asked for him by name but refused to giver her own. The heard laughter in the background, then the female caller said “I am going to (expletive) kill you” and hung up. The man said he was contacting his cell phone provider to ask for records from the call.

FEBRUARY 23

9:04 a.m. Woodward Middle School officials detained three juveniles for smoking marijuana on school grounds. An associate principal showed police a glass pipe that had been found on one of the juveniles, along with a clear bag containing what appeared to be burnt marijuana. The juveniles admitted to having smoked marijuana by some portable buildings before school started. Two of the students were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. The juveniles were released to their parents. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.

3:59 p.m. Police received a report that a man was bicycling through a ferry parking lot, peering into vehicles and to pay slots in the lot’s pay kiosk. Police contacted the man near the terminal. He said he was waiting for his wife to get off a ferry and was riding his bike around to stay warm. An officer noted a bent wire coat hanger in the man’s sweatshirt pocket. The man said he uses the tire to reattach his bicycle chain when it slips off. The case was recorded.

5:21 p.m. A Bainbridge High School student said he had left his jeans on top of a locker and returned later to find them laying in a nearby stairwell. An iPod was missing from a pocket along with cash from his wallet. The iPod was later found between cushions of a couch in the 200 Building. The cash was not recovered. No suspects.

FEBRUARY 24

12:33 p.m.. Items totaling $700 were stolen from a car parked on Mainitou Beach Drive. The owner said the theft had occurred between Feb. 21 and Feb. 22. He said he usually locks the car but there were no signs of forced entry. Nos suspects.
