Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

OCTOBER 4

7:21 a.m. A Day Road man reported that his 5-year-old son had seen a man standing on the family’s porch that morning. The son alerted his father who went downstairs in time to see a dark blue Ford Festiva driving rapidly out of the home’s driveway. The case was recorded.

OCTOBER 5

5:37 a.m. A Bremerton woman was stopped on SR-305 and cited for driving with a suspended license. Her car was moved to the side of the roadway to be retrieved by a friend, and she was given a ride to the ferry.

4:34 p.m. Officers responded to a business on High School Road, where a woman was being detained for shoplifting. An employee said he had confronted the woman after she tried to leave the store with a bag of Yoplait Whips and assorted cheeses totaling $37.66. The woman eluded the employee but was later found in the store’s bathroom. The woman admitted to shoplifting and was cited.

OCTOBER 6

12:54 a.m. Police and aid responded to a Bainbridge residence where an injury and possible domestic dispute were reported. Upon arrival police saw a large amount of blood on the porch and contacted a man who was bleeding heavily from his arm. He said he had become upset with his wife over a private matter and punched his fist through a window. The couple denied any physical conflict. The man was taken to Harrison Hospital for treatment.

1:28 a.m. An officer in a squad car followed a Ford Taurus seen driving erratically northbound on SR-305. At Koura Road the Taurus pulled into the turn lane for Koura Road, then veered back into the northbound lane, forcing the patrol car to brake sharply. The officer pulled the car over and contacted its driver. The driver smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. The officer asked the driver if he was lost, but the man said he was just on his way home from Seatac Airport. He admitted to having drunk “a couple” of cocktails on his flight from Hawaii. He agreed to a portable breath alcohol test and registered a 0.103. Following field sobriety tests the man was arrested for driving under the influence and was transported to Kitsap County Jail.

11:02 a.m. A woman reported that she suspected her boyfriend had taken $300 from her dresser drawer before leaving for Boise, Idaho. She had not heard from her boyfriend in five days and had no way of reaching him. She said they were planning on getting married.

12:32 p.m. A boat was locked to the Waterfront Park dock after its owner failed to pay moorage for three days. The vessel was also not registered. Messages were left with the boat’s owner.

1:23 p.m. A wooden glider-style bench was stolen from a property on Dolphin Drive. The bench was four feet long and valued at $150. No suspects.

9:32 p.m. An officer observed a Nissan Pathfinder traveling approximately 40 to 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on Wyatt Way. The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted its driver, who appeared intoxicated. The man admitted to having just left a bar, where he had consumed at least four cocktails in the previous hour. The man agreed to a portable breath test and registered a high alcohol level. He used an expletive to describe his legal prospects, then offered to leave his car and walk home. Following a poor performance on field sobriety tests he was arrested for driving under the influence. Enroute to jail the man vomited in the patrol car. “I’m really sorry,” he told the officer. “I’m not doing it on purpose.” At jail he provided a breath alcohol content sample of 0.176 and told corrections officers he had downed six shots at the bar before driving.

OCTOBER 7

3:02 p.m. Several windows were found etched at a Bainbridge High School building. In all four double-paned windows had been marked with loops and swirls. Total damage was estimated at $500. A teacher reported three juvenile males standing at one of the windows at the school Saturday. They had left the area immediately after seeing the teacher. She was not able to identify the suspects.

7:16 p.m. A citizen reported hitting and injuring a deer on Blakely Avenue near the elementary school. An officer responded to the scene and called in a wildlife expert for advice on the deer’s condition. The expert advised that the deer be put down. The officer checked that there was a safe backstop and dispatched the animal with a rifle.

OCTOBER 8

2:15 p.m. A citizen found a Swiss DMQ, women’s-style watch on the sidewalk near Winslow Mall. The watch was entered into storage for safekeeping.
