Student at Captain Charles Wilkes Elementary recently created self-portraits.
To get started, students looked at famous portraits — including Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” — and then practiced drawing eyes, mouths and noses. The kids then spent time looking in the mirror to create their own portrait.
Different classes used different materials or techniques.
The portraits made by Wilkes art teacher Jill Queen’s kindergarten students, shown here, were created using paint and found materials.
