Records show former NK superintendent received over $303,000 in settlement

Records received from a Public Records Request show former North Kitsap School District superintendent Laurynn Evans has received a settlement of over $303,000.

According to the settlement, she was allowed to resign June 30, but was still paid to that date from when she stopped working Feb. 1 after a sign-stealing incident. She also will receive as severance almost $24,000 a month for seven months after her resignation.

Because that incident shortened the term of her contract, the settlement was reached rather than going to court, which is standard practice in such cases. Evans will surrender any district property and digital files. The agreement was signed by school board president Mike Desmond and Evans. NKSD Public Records officer Korinne Henry provided the documents as required by state law.

A criminal case against Evans was dismissed in Kitsap County District Court. The county prosecutor filed a misdemeanor charge against her for allegedly removing or defacing political advertising. She reportedly had taken, damaged and displaced campaign signs against the district’s bond measure, which ended up being defeated. The district had placed Evans on paid administrative leave, although Desmond abstained from that vote.

The public records of the settlement were provided by Kim Gerlach, who had a no-contact order against Evans as she was one of the individuals who reported the stolen signs and was involved in taking video of an incident.

Evans has not made herself available for comment, but originally denied the allegations.
