The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag” warning for the Puget Sound region, including Bainbridge Island.

The warning expresses caution should be taken given extreme dry conditions will be combined with impending thunderstorms.

Forecasters with the Weather Service expect a storm system to move from the south into the western Washington area over the weekend and by Sunday thunderstorms are expected in the eastern Olympic Mountains.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has also noted the warning, and adds that conditions for serious brush fires are present.
