Nancy Treder of Bainbridge Island has been hired to be a reporter for Sound Publishing.
Treder will cover education on BI and North Kitsap, along with helping managing editor Steve Powell cover the island as a general assignment reporter.
Tyler Shuey is shifting his beat to North Kitsap, which he’s been covering since Ken Park left to take a job with the Peninsula Daily News in Port Angeles.
“I’m glad to have Nancy with us,” Powell said. “She’s especially strong in photography. She’s going to help the look of our papers tremendously.”
Treder most recently has worked as a public relations manager, social media strategist and publicist. She’s also been a press secretary for the National Guard and had her own photo studio.
She won the Army’s highest award for journalism while in the service about 25 years ago. She also was a director of Operations and Training and a police officer in the Army.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of La Verne, and took certificate programs in Digital Marketing and Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the University of Washington.
“She’s very friendly,” Powell said. “She’ll fit right in here.”
