Ross Dale Amo of Bainbridge Island passed away suddenly Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Harborview Medical Center. He was 90.

He was born in Black River Falls, Wisc. on Oct. 24, 1924 to Ross Philip Amo and Cloteen Agnes Mullen.

His family moved to Seattle in 1929 where he attended McDonald Elementary School and then Lincoln High School, graduating in 1942.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, served as a radioman during World War II aboard the USS Pickens, and was honorably discharged near the end of the war in 1945.

He married Barbara Anne Lui on Jan. 15, 1946 in Seattle. They were married 69 years. She survives him.

He is also survived by their seven children, Erin Maureen Wyatt, John Joseph Amo, Barbara Anne Schoenberg, Patrick Michael Amo, Cathleen Mary Sears, Annemarie Olson, and J.P. (Jerome Philip) Amo; and by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Jane Handrich.

He retired after 33 years in 1983 from his Western Electric career, where he built telecommunication routers — when routers were entire buildings.

His favorite answer when friends and family asked about him: “I’m still here!”

Yes, he certainly is. And he always will be.

He was buried at Tahoma National Veterans Cemetery Friday, June 5.
