The future is looking good for Initiative 1366 – at least for now.
The latest from Tim Eyman’s for-profit initiative factory garnered 60.4 percent of 19,196 votes in Tuesday’s tally while 39.6 percent of Washington voters, 7,607 people, opposed the measure.
The measure would decrease the sales tax rate from 6.5 to 5.5 percent on April 15, 2016, unless the Legislature countered beforehand with a proposed amendment to the state constitution stipulating that future tax raises be approved by two-thirds of the Legislature or voters.
If Eyman’s proposal is enacted, the Washington Office of Finance Management estimates that the state will lose $8 million in revenue over the next six fiscal years.
