Scorched 122 building torn down

Crews demolished what remained of the 122 building Thursday afternoon.

Crews began demolishing the building where the 122 Restaurant was formerly located on Winslow Way Thursday afternoon.

Lightening struck the building in the early morning hours of Monday, July 9. The strike caused a fire to slowly grow until violent flames destroyed the entire structure and everything within. Fire crews spent the morning putting the blaze out.

Now, nearly four months later, what remained of the scorched building that islanders considered a nightly home-away-from-home was torn down as passersby, including 122 owners Chris Ortiz and Kim Raymond, watched.
