Working in conjunction with Jerry Hall, Boy Scouts from Troop 1496 led by Trent Craighead have recently undertaken several extensive service projects at the Masonic Lodge including clearing many years of blackberry growth off the property, repairing the flagpole, cleaning the sidewalks, weeding the planting beds and trimming trees.
Hall, a general contractor on Bainbridge Island for 30 years, recently was elected Master of the Lodge for the William Renton Lodge No. 29 F. & A. M. of Washington. The Masons sponsor Cub Scout Pack 4545, an all-girl Venture Scout Crew and Boy Scout Troop 1496, one of the largest Troops in the state.
Sprucing up the outside is just one phase of a major renovation the Lodge is undertaking. Exciting changes are taking place inside the building, too.
The Masons, working with professional chef Deborah Cairo, owner of Chef on the Go, partnered to create a new commercial, stainless-steel kitchen. Chef Cairo recently was notified that her grants have been approved and she plans to use the new commercial kitchen to begin teaching food bank recipients how to prepare healthy meals using items normally stocked by the food banks.
Located across the street from Bainbridge High School, the Masons meet at the Lodge at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of every month for a catered dinner. Anyone interested in using the Lodge for private events should contact Hall at 360-271-5618.
