Second COVID-19 case in Kitsap is also from Bainbridge Island

The second case of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that has been discovered in Kitsap County is from a Bainbridge Island resident.

It’s the second confirmed case of COVID-19 in Kitsap. The first confirmed case of coronavirus, announced Sunday, March 8, was also from a Bainbridge Island resident.

The new case is linked to the COVID-19 case reported Sunday.

Kitsap Public Health District officials announced Tuesday morning that it has been notified that the second positive COVID-19 test came from a Bainbridge resident in their 70s.

That person is in isolation, health district officials said.

The Kitsap Public Health District said it “is working as quickly as possible to notify people identified as having been in close contact with the affected individual. Close contacts will be instructed to stay home, per Department of Health guidelines.”

“Close contact” is defined as “a person who has been within about 6 feet of a person with confirmed novel coronavirus infection for a prolonged period of time or has had direct contact with secretions from a person with confirmed novel coronavirus infection,” said Tad Sooter, public information officer for the Kitsap Public Health District.

The definition of “close contact” used in Washington is the same as the definition used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Sooter added.
