At least seven runners from Bainbridge Island were competing in the Boston Marathon Monday as the famed race ended in tragedy.
Two explosions occurred in Boston at approximately 3 p.m. EST today. Early news reports indicated that the explosions were caused by bombs.
According to the Boston Marathon’s website, eight runners from Bainbridge Island were registered to take part in this year’s marathon, however, only seven have recorded times that indicate they had finished the race.
The runners include Luis Borges, 51; David McVay, 45; Ken Pinchiff, 49; Bob Powers, 50; Claudia Powers, 45; Charlie Quinn, 45; and Peter Vossall, 42. Ron Copstead was also registered, but the marathon’s website does not have a running time listed for him.
All runners have recorded times for finishing the race, except for Bob Powers, who last checked in at the 40K line at 2:56 p.m.
