No injuries or damage reported.
No one was injured Wednesday when an art project caught fire in an oven at Wilkes Elementary. Firefighters responded to the call shortly before 3 p.m. to find one wing of the school filled with smoke, said chief Glen Tyrrell. The oven was moved outside, where the fire was extinguished. Smoke was then ventilated from the school with fans. Students and staff were evacuated to the school’s upper field before later returning to the building.
“Other than being pretty smelly, there was no damage,” Tyrrell said.
