A 26-year-old man who allegedly stole a cell phone, iPad and Blue Ray player from his father on Bainbridge Island was charged with second-degree trafficking in stolen property in Kitsap County District Court.

Dashiell Charles Wood was charged with the felony after police alleged he took the three items from his father’s Port Madison home and pawned them at Cash America in Bremerton.

The victim called police in early September to say that his son had admitted taking the items and pawning them, and said his son was in jail in Shelton at the time of the conversation, but admitted to the theft because he “wanted to make things better between him and his father.”

The man told police he had contacted the pawn store and the items were scheduled to be put up for sale the following day, but the man was unsure how to get his items back without his son being charged.

An officer said police could put a hold on the pawned merchandise, valued at $850, but that would mean charging papers would be forwarded anyway to the county prosecutor.

After the father was also told that removing the items from Cash America without charges would leave the business without reimbursement, the man decided to move forward with prosecution of his son for the theft of the electronics.

Second-degree trafficking in stolen property is a felony that carries a maximum prison term of five years and a $10,000 fine upon conviction.

Wood was also charged recently in Kitsap County District Court with second-degree vehicle prowling.

Police said someone reported seeing a man checking vehicle windows and pulling on door handles in the YMCA parking lot on

NE Randall Way in Silverdale on May 29. He was also seen in a Toys ‘R Us parking lot checking vehicles.

Wood, who had been living in Silverdale, told officers he was homeless and having a difficult time with drug addiction, but had not taken anything from the vehicles he checked in parking lots near the mall. Police arrested him and booked him for third-degree attempted theft.
