For the second time in three weeks, the Bainbridge Boys Division I Lacrosse club sent Mercer Island home with a big, fat “L.”
The first and second place teams in the Metro League battled Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium, with Bainbridge again coming out on top, 11-7.
The victory was number nine for the undefeated defending state champion Spartans, and was largely powered by a two-pronged, seven-goal attack from midfielders Spencer Evans and Sam Cameron.
“Cameron, Evans and Dylan Preble stepped it up big,” said coach Jack Visco.
Evans tallied four goals and an assist, while Cameron put three shots past the Islanders netminder for his sixth hat-trick of the season.
Also contributing to the scoring were Joe Picha, with a pair of goals, and Scott Burkland and David Vanderhoek with one goal apiece.
Spartan defenders contained, for the most part, Mercer’s Luke Larson, who has been explosive for the Islanders this season and averages six points per game.
Bainbridge goaltender Alex Jacques recorded his fourth win between the pipes by stopping 15 of 22 Mercer Island shots.
The Spartans play next at Bellevue High School on Tuesday.

***D2 drops one to Roosevelt
The Bainbridge D2 Lacrosse club came out strong against Roosevelt Tuesday evening – posting a 4-3 lead at halftime – but couldn’t make it stand up as the Rough Riders scored three unanswered goals in the second half. With the loss, Bainbridge falls to 3-4-0 on the season.
The Sparts played against Eastlake Friday, and will take on Mt. Rainier in an away contest on Tuesday.
