The Spartan fastpitch team had to put in some overtime, but they got the win against the West Seattle Wildcats, defeating them 7-5 in 10 innings Friday for third place in the Metro tournament. Bainbridge’s Lindsay Willmann threw all 10 innings for the win. She didn’t give up a earned run, struck out 11 and only gave up six hits and walked three.

Fastpitchers third at Metro tourney

The Spartan fastpitch team had to put in some overtime, but they got the win against the West Seattle Wildcats, defeating them 7-5 in 10 innings Friday for third place in the Metro tournament.

Bainbridge’s Lindsay Willmann threw all 10 innings for the win.

She didn’t give up a earned run, struck out 11 and only gave up six hits and walked three.

Despite a total of 13 defensive errors by both teams, Bainbridge and West Seattle kept it close until the Spartans scored three runs in the tenth, highlighted by Chelsie Kakela’s two run single.

The freshman outfielder went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while catcher Brittany Wisner was 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Chelsea Hansen was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Bainbridge plays Nathan Hale tomorrow at noon in a loser-out game at the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

Tracksters finish in top five at Metros

The Bainbridge track teams finished strong at the Metro League championship meet Friday at the Southwest Complex in West Seattle.

For the girls, all three relay teams move onto districts, with the 4×400 team of Lizzie Brackett, Alana MacWhorter, Zena Hemmen and Alex Mynatt finishing first.

Brackett also finished sixth in the 100 meter dash, while Madeline Sheldon was sixth in the 200 and Hillary Pritchett was fourth in the 800.

Caroline Johnson followed up her second place finish in the 3200 with a second place finish in the 1600.

On the boys side, the 4×400 relay team of Bevan Taylor, Nate Mallove, Pat Wauters and Austin Hallett finished second.

The 4×100 relay team of Clif McKenzie, Mallove, Alexander Carter and Wauters finished sixth.

Haakon Ostenson and Dane Hiett were fourth and sixth in the pole vault respectively, while Quinton Agosta was seventh in the high jump and fifth in the discus.

Carter finished first in the high jump.

The boys placed fourth in the team standings while the girls placed third.

The top seven move onto the 3A Sea-King District 2 meet today and Friday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle.

Just two remain for racqueteers

It was a much harder climb for the Bainbridge tennis club in the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament Monday at Lower Woodland Field in Seattle.

On the boys side, Spencer Cheng is one match away from the state touarnment, as he defeated Garrett Vincent of Seattle Prep 6-2, 6-1, but lost to Mike Kung of Sammamish 6-3, 6-3.

In the consolation round, he beat Jeff Casserd of Issaquah 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Yesterday, he played the loser of the match between Jerry Ellis of O’Dea and Chris Bailey of Mercer Island in a winner to state match.

The winner of that match plays for third and fourth.

In the boys doubles section of the tournament, Taylor Lea and Erik Saksa lost to the Eastside Catholic duo of John and Graham Quinn 6-4, 6-3.

The loss eliminated them from the tournament.

Darton Gibbons and Nash Reijnen also were eliminated 6-1, 6-1 by Patrick Boorkman and Jonathan Chang of Newport.

On the girls side, Van Duong of Sammamish defeated Lauren Trageser 6-2, 6-1, eliminating her from the tourney.

Molly Donohue also lost to Duong, but she recovered to defeat Amelia Carpenter of Mercer Island 6-3, 6-3. She was slated to play the loser of the match between Seattle Prep’s Nicole Fleckenstein and Bellevue’s Julie Phillips.

The Spartan duo of Taylor Raquer and Jamie Slonaker were eliminated by Randi Eicher and Claire Wolf of Sammamish 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
