More honors for Stuart
The accolades have added up for Bainbridge volleyball player Hannah Stuart this year:
Most Valuable Player for the Metro League Mountain Division, the Kitsap Newspaper Group’s All-Kitsap County first team, Kitsap Sun’s Athlete of the Fall in volleyball and a Seattle Post-Intelligencer All-Star.
Now she can add this to her list: a member of the Associated Press all-state volleyball second team.
Stuart, who was named in the hitters category , was one of three Kitsap County athletes to be named to the team and becomes the second Spartan ever to make the team as Michelle Miller made the second team last year.
Central Kitsap’s Ali Weisbarth was selected to the 4A second team as a hitter, while Dawn Norcross from North Mason was a 3A honorable mention as a libero. The honor was so new, Stuart didn’t hear about it until a reporter told her.
Even her volleyball coach, Julie Miller, didn’t know about it until she read it in the paper.
Stuart is happy that her work is recognized.
“I was looking forward to getting to State and playing well, so it’s an unexpected surprise,†she said. “It’s really nice to get this because it’s so rewarding.â€
The AP team is selected via ballot by sportswriters across the state.
A junior, Stuart is spending four days in Austin, Texas, for a USA National volleyball holiday training camp.
